The  course will provide students with the basic skills in reading writing and speaking  
in Hungarian at  a  pre-intermediate level.
The course starts with reviewing  the elementary grammar of the 8o-hour intensive language program.  Subsequently  it focusses on some f  important elements of Hungarian grammar:  
 
-past tense of verbs 
-present and past hypothetical  mood of verbs 
-imperarive mood of verbs,
-word building
Hungarian folk songs, nursery rhymes and tales are an integral part of the course
 
By the  end of the course, students will be able to carry out basic conversations in a variety of everyday situations, both formal and informal. 
 This course also aims at improving students spoken  language  skills. The final grade of spoken Hungarian is based on in-class activities and on  individual  work ( oral presentation: "show and tell").
Final grades will be based on the following components: 
      class attendance and active classroom participation 20%
                                    word quizzes           20%  ( 4 word quizzes)
                                    homework               20%
                                    midterm exam         20%
                                    final exam               30%  
 
                                    spoken language     10 % 
Cumulative word quizzes: February 25, March 10, April 7, April 21
PS Because of official holidays three 3 hour periods are missed out this year ( March 17,March 24,May 12) Some field trips are planned in as make- up classes the exact time of which will be discussed during class.
